Accessibility

At K O Web Design we believe that accessibility should not be an "optional extra" but should be a fundamental consideration within all stages of the design. We are committed to making our sites as accessible as possible to users with cognitive, visual, motor or hearing impairments.

We are dedicated to enabling web sites to achieve at least Priority One of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium. If our clients require a fully accessible web site then we endeavour to code the site to comply with Priority Two or Priority Three of the WAI.

Not only do we consider users with disabilities whilst designing our sites we also consider the technology used to view the content of the site. The combination of XHTML and CSS we use makes our sites interoperable, which mean they will look the same in nearly all browsers, smart mobile phones, PDAs and so forth. Many sites that rely on templates have not been updated to use XHTML and use deprecated features.

At K O Web Design we avoid Flash animation where practicable because links within flash files cannot be used by users with screen reading technology. Flickering or flashing animation may also trigger seizures in some users with medical conditions such as epilepsy. If Flash is required within a design we make every effort to ensure there is a text alternative for users with impairments.
